Minister Avcı chatted with students and told them that there have been a number of baseless news reports about the Ministry of National Education and exams claiming that the system is going to change.

Noting that there would definitely be no surprising changes in the system, Minister Avcı said, “Continue to study the exams in a way that you already know. There is no change about the upcoming university entrance exams. When a child begins high school, he or she begins to prepare for these exams and we make our plans according to this fact. Accordingly, we are not planning to make a last minute change. There is no need for you to worry.”

Minister Avcı stated that questions that could be answered with methods learnt in preparatory courses were asked in the previous exams adding that, “Due to this reason, students were feeling the urge to go to these courses. They were absent in the classroom especially after the second semester. But, this is not the case anymore. Now, questions asked in the university exams are based on the lessons learned at the classroom and this will be same in the future.”

“Our teachers are working in the commission which prepares university examination questions”

Minister Avcı said that previously university examination questions were prepared by academicians and went on to say:

“But now, we delegate teachers, high school teachers and branch teachers work in the question preparation commission. More than 100 of our teachers worked in the commission which prepares university examination questions. This means that overwhelming majority of questions will be based on the lessons learnt in the classroom. So, if you attend your classes, listen your teachers carefully, there will be no need for you to attend a preparatory course. But if you feel the necessity of getting some support, then you can attend free supplementary courses provided by our state schools.”

Noting that there are more than 150 thousand supplementary educational materials in the Education Information Network (EIN), Minister Avcı stated, “There are questions in very branch if you need educational support. If you think you failed to learn your course at the classroom, then you can apply for supplementary courses. If you believe these courses are not enough, then you can enter the EIN portal. We have been providing all the support you need with our free services.”

Minister Avcı said that there are teachers who are teaching students even at the weekends and added that, “They are not doing it for money, it is a sacrifice they are willing to show in order to support their students.”

Following his speech, Minister Avcı gave notebooks and pencils to students as presents and talked with teachers.

After this visit, Minister Avcı arrived in the Gediz district of Kütahya where he had the opportunity to chat with bazaar artisans. Mayor Mehmet Ali Saraoğlu greeted Minister Avcı at the entrance of the city. Minister Avcı visited Gediz Youth Center and shopped at the bazaar. Minister Avcı posed with children for the cameras and gave Bensu İncekara who was celebrating her birthday a book as a present.

Later, Minister Avcı visited the municipality and Mayor Saraoğlu gave him an antique pen produced in 1950s as a present.

“This is the most beautiful gift I have ever received. You have given me a gift that made me very happy. Thank you very much,” Minister Avcı said. He signed his book entitled “Enformatik Cehalet” (Informatic Ignorance) as a gift to the Mayor.

Later, Minister Avcı visited Private Boğaziçi Çözüm Basic Highschool which was transformed from a preparatory course to a private school.

Speaking at the conference hall of the school, Minister Avcı stated that this school is among the first education institutions that were transformed from preparatory course to private school and went on to say :

“This is a deep-rooted education institution that transformed into secondary and basic high school. We did not expect schools to immediately fulfill certain criteria which are required for becoming private schools during the transformation to basic high school process.  We want them to fulfill all criteria in four years’ time. This school has entered an appropriate transformation process with good intensions. I want to thank all the students and parents who had prompted this process.”
