Parliament Speaker Kahraman congratulated teachers who he said has a special place at the hearts of every person who ever went to school and underlined the importance of understanding the real meaning of teaching and training.

“We are the members of a religion whose first commandment is “Read” and due to this reason, we identify learning with civilization. We respect teachers and tutors and value books. We are grateful to our teachers who teach us every single letter we know and every sentence we can read,” said Kahraman adding that teachers have an important role in the construction of the society.

Noting that the new generation will be raised by teachers, Kahraman stressed that the government has led and carried the education torch. “The society owes thanks to teachers. There are still 18 million students going to schools and this figure is more than two thirds of many countries’ total population. Number of people benefiting from education services of the country is close to 26 million when the number of persons receiving training are included among the students receiving formal education,” Kahraman stated.

The Parliament Speaker said that being a member of the training and education army, teachers are devoted persons who dedicate their lives to their missions adding that, “Your eyes are like windows opening to new horizons. Millions of children are seeing the world through your eyes, dreaming of becoming citizens like you, making their future plans by taking you as an example. These plans will shape the future of this country. Due to this reason, each one of you has a great value. The most profitable investment is investing in people. We are investing in our children within the limits of our resources and opportunities. Education is an expensive investment. Your mission is not limited with only teaching how to read and write. Teaching knowledge and transformation of information into behavior is a long term investment. 20 years is needed in order to see the results of education. Due to this reason, raising children requires patience and sacrifice. You are devoted people. Our most important assurance is your devoted efforts. All targets can be achieved if there is cooperation. And it is our duty to solve the problems of the training and education army members, fulfill their demand and needs. Nobody should doubt that the state will make all kinds of regulations within this framework.”

Noting that children and young people should know science, culture and belief and they should be confident, have moral courage and should not hesitate to express themselves, Parliament Speaker Kahraman stated that students should be raised as exemplery citizens having moral and national values and they should be open to development and transformation.

“I wished to be a judge or a teacher”

Kahraman said that all these goals are not hard to be achieved with the efforts of teachers and with the support of the state adding that the first duty of teachers is to build bridges between hearts, embrace their jobs and have a common dream about the future of the country.

“Dreams are the fields of reality,” stated Kahraman, “I always wished to be a judge or a teacher. I could not become a judge although I studied law. Judges establish justice in the society. Justice is the foundation of reform. Justice is the foundation of the state. Thanks to my primary school teacher Mrs. Kevser, I also wanted to become a teacher due to my love and respect to my teacher. However, I neither become a judge nor teacher but I reserve my respect to justice and education. You are the devoted members of education and training community coming from different parts of the country. This is your day to enjoy. Turkey will continue to move forward despite all obstacles. We will maintain our unity and integrity but you are the ones who would raise the children who will fulfill these objectives.”

Meanwhile, Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı said, “We would like to thank you for receiving 350 teachers coming from 81 provinces of the country. Teachers’ Day is one of the most important events of our education society. This occasion also gives us the chance to congratulate your new post as the Parliament Speaker. I wish your mission will be full of blessings. I would like to convey my respect. Thank you very much.”
